2nd Attempt: Day 287. Coffee with fellow pink girls. Friday 7th January 2011, 21.2km, Steps 24715 (1/7/2011)

D had a little bit of a slack attack this morning and spent too much time chatting to her mum over her coffee breakfast and didn’t realise the time, all of a sudden it was panic stations as D had an appointment to meet the Mackay Dragon Abreast Ladies and the media at Mackay and we still had 8kms to run and only 80 mins to drive back to the spot and run the distance. Talk about panic! We all hopped into the car and Glyn put on the gas back to our GPS spot where D jumped out of the car before it was stopped properly and hit the ground running. It was a very quick 8kms but we made it on time and had a great reception from the wonderful Dragon Abreast Ladies who made D an official paddler when they presented her with one of their t-shirts. On receiving the gift D and I exchanged a knowing look as we both know D gets sea sickness in the bath so I think joining a boating group is quite hilarious.
As it was a very hot & sticky morning D was a bit overheated from her fast run so she decided to stay a little longer in the air – conditioned shopping centre so D sat down with the Dragon Abreast ladies and had her favourite a café latte. However we had some kms still to do so after and hour I suggested by my usual means of a good head nudge that we should get moving. OMG!!! When we stepped outside the day was a scorcha! I decided that there was NO way I was going to run in this heat so I jumped into the air-con car and made D run by herself, after all I figure it is D’s fault we were running in this heat as she was the one who wanted to run around Australia in the first place and secondly she delayed us with her coffee habit. However after watching her run another 10 kms in the heat I felt a bit sorry for her and jumped out and did the last 3 kms with her to the caravan park where on arrival I jumped back into an air-conditioned environment this time my pink Regent caravan.  I think the air-con was turned up too much as I spent the afternoon dreaming of the snow covered mountains of home.

Running with you soon.
