2nd Attempt: Day 286. A restored pub and restoring D. Thursday 6th January 2011, 21.3km, Steps 25712 (1/6/2011)

Due to D & I slowing down we haven’t been setting the alarm so we woke naturally this morning at 6.30am and had breakfast with D’s folks before driving back to yesterday’s GPS stop at Kuttabul.  We said goodbye to Glyn as he drove off with my pink home on wheels to our next leg, usually our running legs are about 4 – 5kms apart so we weren’t excepting to see the pink van for a while but after 1km there it was parked outside the Kuttabul Hotel! I looked at D and thought maybe something was wrong? We went to this hotel to get a location signature for our witness book on the 1st attempt and it was about to fall over if it wasn’t burnt before hand or taken over by a jungle of weeds, so we couldn’t understand why Glyn had pulled over here maybe he was hitting the plunk early? We were running up to the van when a wonderful smiling hello was called to us, it was Na Hetherington who had taken over the hotel since we had been there and restored it. She has done a wonderful job on this great old Queensland pub and it’s really worth a visit. We both took some photos and Na gave us a great donation before we got back on our way.

D and I ran our required kms than GPS and marked the spot with our signature pink ribbon and then drove into Mackay to The Parks Caravan Park who is kindly letting us stay for the next two nights. Yet again D spent the afternoon sleeping, I think the slowing down is actually do her a bit of good as she is getting some rest in the afternoons which is helping her recovery.

Running with you soon.
