2nd Attempt: Day 283. Catching up with an Aussie Hero. Monday 3rd January 2011, 29.9km, Steps 36533 (1/3/2011)

Before leaving the caravan park this morning after saying a huge thank you to the owners, they had been very generous to your cause as they not only had allowed us to stay the night but they had looked after D’s folks van whilst they had gone to Adelaide for D’s Nan’s funeral and were allowing D’s folks to stay on as they fundraised around Proserpine and Airlie Beach over the next few days.
This means that it was just the dynamic trio again for the next few days but we are stocked up with food (thanks to D’s mum) and are ready to head down the road again.
After 1 km we turned left off the Bruce Hwy heading towards Midge Point, the home of a very special person Irene Ferraris who is an inspiration breast cancer survivor, Irene was diagnosed about the same time as D back in March 2006 and like my D has gone on to raise tens of thousands of dollars for cancer research. We meet Irene on our 1st attempt and when we arrived into Midge Point for morning tea it was wonderful to she hear again. Irene is a true Aussie hero and I know an inspiration to D and all I can say is keep Irene you are a trooper & truly inspirational woman.
By coming to Midge Point it was D’s hope that we could run to the Midge Point Caravan Park to stay the night unfortunately when we got to the turn off to the caravan park we had only done 16kms and the caravan park was a further 2kms away which meant a total of 18kms therefore we couldn’t stay the night there as it was under our 20km minimum rule, bugger!
We decided to run another 15kms back to the hwy to Bloomsbury; it was a pleasant undulating run through beautiful green countryside. On arrival into Bloomsbury it started to rain (again) luckily the service station allowed us to camp at the back of their premises and we bunked down for the night just as the rain settled in.
Running with you soon.
