2nd Attempt: Day 280. We weren´t supposed to be here! Friday 31st December 2010, 28.2km, Steps 35013 (12/31/2010)

D woke this morning and as she has done every morning since Christmas she got on line and checked the flood reports in QLD. The news isn’t good as the roads south and west of Rockhampton will be closed from tomorrow and are expected to be closed for up to 10 days. This means if we continue on schedule we would be in the middle of the flood waters in 8 days which is the last thing we would like to do as the title of our charity event is Run Around Australia not Swim around Australia and besides D can’t swim a lick! D, Glyn and I sat down and have a mini team discussion (as the other two members of our team, D’s folks are still away) and it was decided that D and I will slow down so as not to be caught up in the flooding in Rockhampton. It was also decided that we would ran into Airlie Beach today, this isn’t on our scheduled route but as we need to avoid Rocky but still keep kms going we will do extra by taking a side trip to Airlie.

With all those decisions being made it worked up my appetite and I suggested to D if we could change our routine and have breakfast before running our usual 7- 15 kms before we eat. She thought this was a great idea and we tucked into hot crumpets with honey and cheese topping.

A very yummy breakfast and great running food as before we knew it we arrived at Centro Whitsunday’s in Cannonvale where Glyn had gone to do some food shopping. D decided to do a bit of shopping as well and she went to the Big W to purchase some much need socks as about a week ago D went through her sock pile and discovered that many of them were starting to get a little holy and there were quite a few lone customers hanging around the bottom of the sock drawer as well therefore D had a diminished stock so a bit of a buy up will help her get down the road.

After shopping D ran to the Sea Breeze caravan park in Airlie and put her feet up for the rest of the day. We might not have meant to be here in Airlie but it is a very beautiful place and after a wonderful dinner, we watched a movie as our way of celebrating New Year Eve. We were all finished and in bed and sound asleep way before midnight because tomorrow is still another running day.

Running with you soon.
