2nd Attempt: Day 275. Getting ahead of floods, a sweet treat & a sick dad. Sunday 26th December 2010, 30.1km, Steps 34942 (12/26/2010)

e south direction, the way we needed to go 2 cars and a bus drove passed our window. D gave me a little smile and said well Maggie it looks like we might be able to do forward today. Just to make sure D listened to the latest road condition report on the radio before heading out and we learnt that to road at Haughtons River just 6kms behind us was closed. Wow were we lucky that we ran those extra kms last night!

It was a very wet run and after 15kms D was feeling a little peckish and asked what was for morning tea. D’s mum said something special and drove off to the morning tea spot leaving us to run a further 5kms wondering what that special something could be. When we arrived at our scheduled morning tea spot we could smell fresh brewed coffee and I could see D starting to salivate. As you all know D’s a bit like Pavlov’s dog when it comes to coffee! But there was also another scrumptious smell coming from the caravan it was sweet and spicy and it made my tongue salivate. As we were all very tired last night we didn’t have time to eat our dessert so D’s mum had prepared our Christmas pudding today for our morning tea. After a huge serving of Christmas pud with brandy butter and 2 cups of coffee D and I waddled down the road another 10kms to arrive at Ayr.

On arrival at the Burdekin Cascades Caravan Park D’s mum told D that her dad was running a temperature and that she was going to take him to the hospital as she was worried about him. Unfortunately D couldn’t go with them as she had a scheduled radio interview and need to have a quick shower before we were getting picked up. I could see that D was very worried but as always she put her concerns aside and when Chris come to pick us up and drive us to the Sweet FM radio studio you would never know that anything was wrong. D did the interview with her usually professionalism and then we were driven back to the caravan park where we discovered that D’s folks hadn’t returned from the hospital yet. Glyn cooked a quick meal and by the time we had eaten D’s folks had returned but had not yet seen anyone at the hospital as they had a major emergency and believed that D’s dad was not serious danger and to come back in the morning.  As there was not much D could do for her dad she decided to go to bed and leave all the worrying to her mum as that’s what mums do the best!

Running with you soon.
