2nd Attempt: Day 119. It´s not about running. Friday 23rd July 2010, 48.4km, Steps 58721  (7/23/2010)

We got off to an early start as we had to drive back to the yesterdays finished point. It was still dark when we arrived and D was fast asleep so the crew and I decided to wait till day light until we woke her as she doesn’t like running in the dark all the road trains coming through as it is too dangerous.

We woke D at daybreak and we ran into Carnarvon where we were met by Jan, Jen and Anne near the Satellite-dish. Jan and Jen wanted to walk with D to the turnoff as Jan had just finished breast cancer treatment 4 weeks ago and even though she couldn’t walk too far, she wanted to be on the road with D for a little time. It’s moments like this when D understands that her run around Australia isn’t about running it’s about being there for others who are going or gone through BC or for those who have lost someone to BC. D and I felt very honoured to have spent time with this courageous woman who is battling cancer for the second time in her life and who’s positive and wonderful attitude to life enriched our day. Thank you Jan and Jen for spending those precious moments with us today.
At the turnoff we were met by the local newspaper reporter and he interviewed D and Jan about their experiences with BC and what D’s run meant to them and other BC patients and survivors. I was a little miffed by this as he didn’t want to talk or photograph me. Doesn’t he know that I am the real star of the show?  After fond goodbyes D and I ran out over the Gascoyne River and found a parking bay to stay for the night. We went to bed with smiles on our faces as we understood that ultimately the run isn’t about us (well not about D, I still secretly think it’s about me) but it’s for people like Jan.
Running with you soon.
