2nd Attempt: Day 109. A meeting to cheer the soul and a historic place to camp. Tuesday 13th July 2010, 42.7km, Steps 50536 (7/13/2010)

We started the day to clear skies and no rain and we were optimistic that the storms had broken and there was a spring in our step as we run on down the run hoping to achieve a good steady running day. As the morning progress and we continued to experience clear skies and tail winds our spirits lifted as well.

Our happy mood was further improved by a wonderful chance meeting of kindred spirits. About two stops out from breakfast D and I ran up to the van to find a visitor.  He introduces himself to us: “Hi I’m Ivo” with an outstretched welcoming hand. D shook hands with Ivo and introduced me to him.
Ivo who is actually Ivo Karnel is riding around Australia on his push bike (donated by Anaconda, who is our sponsor as well!) raising awareness about depression, especially associated with youth. He has visited lots & lots of schools during his journey and talks to the students about life, dreams and services available for them. You can contact Ivo on his Website:
Ivo is a great ambassador to his associated charity organizations these being Reach out, Lifeline, Kids Helpline and Beyond Blue.  As during D’s world record walk around Oz in 2003/2004 (see she raised money for Kids Help Line and visited over 100 schools talking to kids about the same things as Ivo and D was also a Lifeline Councillor for many years in the 1990’s Ivo and D had a lot in common and they did spend at least an hour talking about their experiences.
Listening to Ivo and D talk I realised they shared the same philosophy of life that through the service to others there in lies the secret to true happiness. D has a very faded, dog eared and loved quote from the Dalai Lama that she has become beholden to her and travels with her everywhere she goes it state.
“We are visitors on this planet. We are here for ninety or one hundred years at the very most. During that period, we must try to do something good, something useful, with our lives. If you contribute to other people’s happiness you will find the true goal, the true meaning to life”
No truer words have ever been said.
Regrettably Ivo and D said goodbye but with promises to meet again when D gets to Brisbane as Ivo has agreed to run with D through his home town.  As a parting gesture D gave Ivo one of her pink running t-shirts and in exchange Ivo has dedicated his riding leg from Perth to Port August to D.
We ran on to Greenough Historic Settlement, A National Trust Property with many historic buildings. We were welcomed by the staff and invited to stay and look around this beautiful site and crew member Merienne a bell ringer, showed off her professional skills and rang the Greenough church bell.
I went to sleep with music still ringing in my ears and a deep sense of happiness from today’s blessings.
Running with you soon.
