2nd Attempt: Day 103. Just a running day or was it? Wednesday 7th July 2010, 56.9km, Steps 61863 (7/7/2010)

Today for the first time in a long time we were appointment free, no fundraising, and no interviews just a day dedicated to running. Well that is what we thought as we headed out early this morning. The thing about our journey is that not one day goes by without numerous people pulling over, giving a donation or stopping to talk to D about BC. These people either tell us their personal journey with the disease or sharing the story about someone they knew and loved having BC. Today was no accepting and by the time D and I reached our breakfast spot only 12 kms from where we camped we had already been stopped by three people. This was to be the pattern off the day.

This constant stopping and starting does mean that D’s running rhythm is disrupted and that she spends a lot of time with people instead of running therefore her kms/per hour is lower than if she was only running. The thing is that sometimes it frustrates me as all I would like to do is run and run until the daily kilometres are done but not D she tells me that the reason we are here is for the people who need to talk to us about their experiences with breast cancer.
It amazes me that D never gets tired of talking to others about BC, she always gives people time, sometimes it can be 5 minutes and on occasion it has been an hour but she said that this journey isn’t really about running it’s about giving hope to those in need and raising awareness and funds so one day we were find that cure. I wonder if that day comes D will stop running?
After breakfast we ran into Gingin as Little Pink need to buy a new battery for the car and crew member Merienne brought a few pink shirts from the local op shop. We received more well wishes and donations as we headed back to the Brand Hwy and continued to run through the afternoon until stopping at a parking bay about 10k south of Regans Ford for the night. I couldn’t believe it! We managed a good solid 56.9kms after we had been stopped by over a dozen people on the road today and we managed to receive over $200 in donations. Not bad for a no appointment or fundraising day.
Running with you soon.
