2nd Attempt: Day 99.A special place to camp. Saturday 3rd July 2010, 35.6km, Steps 34081 (7/3/2010)

D woke feeling not as sore as yesterday and edger to get on the road as she was aiming to get a few kilometres beyond Rockingham today before the official meet and greet with the Rockingham Mayor, media and community. D wants those extra kilometres in the bank as we have a huge day in Perth tomorrow and she wanted to make sure she had plenty of time up her sleeve to get the kilometres in.
At 2pm and about 7 kms past Rockingham D stopped to the day and we drove back to the Rockingham Shopping Centre where D was greeted by the Mayor Barry Sammels who gave her donation on behalf of the council as well as breast cancer survivor Maine Delaney and other community members. D spent quite a bit of time chatting to all and then as there was a Gloria Jeans coffee place just next to the fundraising table D just couldn’t resist her favourite indulgence a café latte.
After the official welcome to the community and coffee the council had organized for the Running Pink team to stay at the Apex Camp Complex at Peron Point a beautiful location right next to the sea. The caretaker of the complex, Geoff Pollard helped us set up for the night and then told D that she was an inspiration to him and that her journey is own current cancer journey. He also told D that he had volunteered for the job at the complex as it created little stress in his life.   D spent a long time with Geoff, he talked about how being at Peron Point watching the dolphins and the sea is helping him get his life into perspective as he undergoes treatment and D told him about her cancer journey and how she did a similar sort of thing spending time with nature. I remember that time well with D we spent a lot of time on the beach going for walks in beginning and as D’s treatment started to take its toll just sitting and watching the waves for hours. There is a healing nature I guess that’s why D loves running around the country.
Running with you soon.
