2nd Attempt: Day 87. Half way there, fairies slappers and meeting a legend. Monday 21st June 2010, 66km, Steps 75973 (6/21/2010)

After some rest D woke very early, still with a cold but she donned on her Eucalyptus mask and headed out on her own with a torch into the dark at 4.50am. The day blossomed into a good running day, blue skies, and cool breeze and not too hilly. We ran thru many peaks, had morning tea and lunch on the ran but some 60kms later we arrived on time at the outside of Albany where we were met by a local cancer fundraising group known as the Fairy Slappers, a Relay for Life team who helped raise over $100,000 for cancer research and ex Olympian runner and now Federal MP Peter Watson.

Everyone joined D for a walking escort into the Albany Centro where D was greeted by the Mayor Milton Evans and a group of local Albany people. At the meet and greet presentation D received donation from the Mayor, Peter Watson and the local school had done a “Pink day” fundraising event and students Brigette Morgan and Kemp Thorton gave D another donation on behalf of the school. D thanked everybody for their special efforts and noted that she could not raise the money without the help of the local communities and then she make her big announcement as of today we had reached the ½ way mark in our fundraising target that’s $150,000 we have raised to help the NBCF find a cure for breast cancer. Yahoo!!!
After the fundraiser, meet/greet our sick D ran on 6kms in the dark to a parking lot, just outside Albany on the road to Denmark. After such a huge day whilst being ill we sent D to bed where her mum fed her a bowl of comforting homemade soup.
Running with you soon.
