2nd Attempt: Day 85. 4000km mark and D´s sick. Saturday 19th June 2010, 59.6km, Steps 69303 (6/19/2010)

D had planned another big day today, as we have only three days to do the 180 odd kilometres till our next fundraising event in Albany WA so she was up and out onto the highway early. The only problem is that D’s cold had gotten worst over night so it was going to be a tough day on the road trying to run bigger kms with a raging cold. To help with the cold, D used an old trick she learnt from a fellow ultra and friend Vlastik, who during the 2006, 6 day Colac race ran with a mask with Eucalyptus Oil drops on it. This technique helped D with her breathing but it sure did make her look a little strange and we received many a strange look by passing cars as we ran along. One bright guy even yelled out as he drove passed “That’s a really bad Michael Jackson impersonation you are doing” at least this gave D a laugh in-between her coughing fits.

The cold didn’t really stop my tough D as she was on a bit of a mission today because at our 39 kms mark for the day we crossed the 4000km mark, which means if we include the other 10,800 kms we did on the first half/attempt we have nearly ran over 15,000kms for the cause. Gee no wonder I am a bit tired! To celebrate our 4000km milestone D had a nice hot toddy to help with her cold.
We kept on running and at dusk we pulled into the Boxwood Hill Roadhouse for the night and Jill the lady who runs the Roadhouse offered D a shower in her our bathroom, it was a wonderful kind gesture and D was happy to have a warm shower after a big day running whilst sick.
Running with you soon.
