2nd Attempt: Day 82. A pink luncheon, back on track and very sad news. Wednesday 16th June 2010, 45.9km, Steps 51060 (6/16/2010)

D and I ran out onto the highway to be greeted by cold head winds and as we ran over the first crest we looked ahead to crest after crest after crest, another hilly day lay ahead. The good news was there was no sign of rain and D was spurred on by the knowledge that with only 45kms to do she would make it to her fundraising luncheon on time.

We were not long on the road and there before us stood an Emu, quietly contemplating out every move. What a gracious creature, how lucky we are to have this encounter, I tried to say hello but she took one look at me and run off. Wow she can sure run fast! I looked at D and said that if we were running against Ms Emu we wouldn’t have a chance of making it to Darwin in time.
We ran on until we reached Ravensthorpe where a group of people greeted us and we had a very filling lunch whilst D told everyone about her cancer story and thanked everyone for helping her to achieve her fundraising goals.
After lunch D ran to the Ravensthorpe Caravan Park where we set up for the night and D logged onto her emails and all of a sudden tears were flowing down D’s face. I immediately went to her side to give her a cuddle and to see what is going on. D had received an email from the cattery in Hobart where my cat cousins Mr Pig and Squish were living whilst we are on the road. Now Mr Pig is very old, 18 years and the email told D that his health is not good and would need to be put to sleep. What could I say? D just wept and wept and I knew that at that moment all she want to do was go home and cuddle her beloved friend just one more time and she said quietly told me that today she felt that the sacrifices she was making to help others was just a little too much. Needless to say we had a very sad night with many tears.
Running with you soon.
