2nd Attempt: Day 75: We made it across the Nullarbor but we are now a day behind. Wednesday 9th June 2010, 59.2km, Steps 66154. (6/9/2010)

D and I left in the dark to an early start with Norseman and the end of the Nullarbor our target. We had a quickness of step today as we run along and I put that down to the pull of finishing a goal. D and I have broken our year long journey around Australia into medium and small goals. Small goals are our daily targets and medium goals are sections around Australia we need to complete to achieve out bigger goal of arriving back in Hobart all happy and in one piece.  The Running Pink team make a big deal of celebrating every medium goal as it helps to keep D motivated to continue running every day, Norseman the end of the Nullarbor is one of our medium term goals and we spent the day in excitement as we knew at the end of the day when we finally get together with D’s folks again and celebrate with a special treat for dinner.
We spent the day running in hilly terrain but the scenery of dry lakebeds, salmon gums and salt bush was so beautiful we didn’t mind the hills. And our spirits were further lifted by a much unexpected source as we were running the last leg of the Nullarbor many of the truck drivers who had passed us on the road over the last three weeks were tooting at us and waving goodbye, three of which stopped to wish us luck and give a donation!
Just on dusk we reached Norseman at last and we turned left down the road to Esperance, where we found the Gateway caravan park, our destination for today.  D celebrated our Nullarbor crossing with a nice hot shower before working on her computer for 3 hours to catch up with the hundreds of emails she received over the 10 day period of no internet service.  I wanted to ask her to help with my blog but I thought it could wait. D’s mum had prepared D’s favourite dinner to celebrate our Nullarbor crossing roast duck. What a spoil!
As we ate we reflected on our crossing it was tough with all the rain and headwinds, not to mention D’s foot issues and even though we are now officially a day behind schedule D and I felt we had done the best job we could and as D’s foot is very much improved we are confident, with some big kilometre days that we can catch up the day we are behind before our next fundraising appointment in a weeks time.
Running with you soon.
