2nd Attempt: Day 73: Slow day, foot still recovering, and a different type dedication. Monday 7th June 2010, 40.3km, Steps 46795. (6/7/2010)

We packed up the rig in the dark early this morning and drove back to yesterday’s starting point. Under these circumstances D and I usually drive with Glyn in the pink truck but as it was a bit of a late night last night D decided to stay in bed in the caravan and sleep through the kms back to the start. The only problem with this is when we got back to Newman Rocks Road, our starting point D was in such a deep sleep that Glyn didn’t have the heart to wake her and she didn’t wake up until 7am!
At that time as it was still very foggy outside D decided to have breakfast before we started running I got left over rabbit stew and I thought this should put a little hop into my stride. Due to the late night, the hills and the continuing foot issues it was a very long slow day for D and we arrived back at Fraser Range Caravan Park at 4.30pm.
After a little R&R and a shower D ventured out to the camp fire and was meet by Ron, we had meet Ron on the side of the road just before we arrived into Ceduna so three weeks back and he told us his story of losing his wife Lorraine to Leukaemia on 2004. At the time D was so touched by Ron’s and his late wife’s story, Lorraine had actually beaten Leukaemia but as her treatment had left her immune system so weak she caught pneumonia and died. Ron told D at the time that he felt Lorraine had won the battle and lost the war.  D was so touched by Ron’s love for his wife still after all these years that she would like to dedicate today’s kms in her memory.
Whilst talking Ron and D discussed the issue that there are over 250 types of cancers in the world and that we really need to find 250 different cures. I looked at D at the moment and I could see the wheels of her mind turning over and just knew what she was thinking, that she needed to help find a cure not just for breast cancer but all cancer. For a moment I had a horror vision of us running, running ,running, laps and laps and laps around Australia but as if knowing what I was thinking D gave me a reassuring pat and said don’t worry Maggie we don’t need to run forever to help others. Thank God for that is all I could say as I went to bed.
Running with you soon.
