2nd Attempt: Day 72: Something not quite right and what a welcome. Sunday 6th June 2010, 40.3km, Steps 45986. (6/6/2010)

It was a very cold, foggy and wet start this morning and within 1kms I could see that something was wrong with D’s right paw. I tried to ask D what was up but she told me nothing and kept running, I think the rain showers that came and went and the hilly terrain that was unforgiving didn’t help whatever was wrong with D’s foot.
By morning tea, D was favouring her left side and I made her talk! Over the last two days D has been experiencing a bit of pain in her right plantarfascia so we made a quick call on our Telstra Satellite phone to our expert medical team in Melbourne and the advice was that D should reduce her kilometres for the next few days and see what happens. As D’s was already behind schedule due to the weather her first question was how much reduction, as she didn’t want to get too much further  behind due to all the fundraising events in the south west corner of WA. After some twoing and froing it was agreed that for 3 days D would do around the 40 kms in the hope the foot will settle down.
With that settled we started running again and after a brief time a car pulled up and wanted to know all about what we were doing. After D had told our story the lady gave D a $10.00 donation and D gave her, our business card. The lady said to D wow $10.00 for a business card that was cheap at ½ the price! With smiles all around we set off our respective ways the caravaner’s off to tackle the Nullarbor east and us running west. We run on for the day and stopped at a parking bay about 40kms E of Fraser Range Station. As we were scheduled to be at Fraser Range for a fundraising event, we GPS the spot and drove forward to the Caravan Park. When we arrived and Fraser Range Station Caravan Park they had organized a fundraising sausage sizzle and you all know how much I love sausage.
I had to however wait patiently for my share of a sausage as D was talking to the crowd that had gathered, telling them of our tail and after many photos, questions and catch-ups D finally lowered her hand towards me with a sausage in it, mmmm sausage!.   We were very surprise to met Don and Pam Morrison from New Zealand who we had met on the 1st attempt at Larrimah NT when they were cycling from Broome to Townsville, they were now back in Australia cycling from Perth to Melbourne. They remembered D and the bad shape she was in the last time we had all meet as it was the time D was hobbling up to Darwin on broken feet and were very pleased that she was fully recovered and had the strength of character to run again. I just looked at them and whispered under my breath strength of character indeed more like pure stubbornness!
After the sausage sizzle and all the caravaner’s had gone to their respective caravans we went across to the mess area where the people from the Caravan Park, Bob, Noel and Judy had prepared a station stew. It was a rabbit stew cooked and caught fresh rabbit off the station, we all had a great dinner, with a good bit of wine, excellent company in a beautiful setting. A will say that Fraser Range Station is a must stay stop on my list.
Running with you soon.
