2nd Attempt: Day 69: On the flat straight. Thursday 3rd June 2010, 57.6km, Steps 66816. (6/3/2010)

We started our day on the straight and not so narrow, longest straight road in Australia, even though it had rained over night the sky was clear, a slight sideward cool breeze and a great flat road ahead of us. As the day wore on and all we did was run and run and run in a straight flat line, I started to long for a bit of variety from the boredom of running in a straight flat direction and as usual when I am trying to keep my mind occupied I started to formula a new theory about the earth.
Here’s my theory as I journey around Australia I realise that I am very different to D, she is a vertical creature her main body mass is vertical from the surface of the earth. I on the other hand am horizontal, my body runs parallel with the ground so everywhere I travel I’m parallel with the landscape which makes everywhere I travel flat therefore I have decided that the world really most be flat.  I was hypothesising about my theory and wondering if this theory will win me a Nobel Prize when D reminded me about a man calledEratosthenes, who lived between 276 and 194 BC (yes: 2200 years ago!) had noticed that the light fell straight down into a well in Syene during the summer solstice, but at an angle in Alexandria on the same date. Knowing (roughly) the distance between the two cities, he conclude that the Earth was round, with a diameter he estimated at 252000 stadia (but we do not know how big is stadia were, the common value of stadion used back then would however make the answer 16% larger than reality -- which is not really that bad).Oh well there goes my dream of scientific fame and glory.
As the sun was setting we pulled into Woorlba East Rest Area and set up for the night where Chef Glyn feed me my VIP’s with milk and D a big bowl of spaghetti bolognaise, then all went to bed.
Running with you soon.
