2nd Attempt: Day 64: Invited out for dinner in the middle of the bush. Saturday 29th May 2010, 55.1km, Steps 62869. (5/29/2010)

After yesterdays windy day D and I woke to perfect running conditions, flat road, cloud cover and a slight cool tail wind which resulted in a great day to make up a few lost kilometres and we reached Moodini Pass a camp area 27kms east of Madura just as the sun started to set.
On our arrival at this bush camp a man come over to us and introduced himself as Paul and invited us to join him and his wife for dinner and to share their camp fire. As it’s only Glyn and I looking after D at the moment, (D folks are fundraising at towns the other end of the Nullarbor), this means that Glyn is the chief cook and bottle washer not to mention doing all the other task required to help keep D on the road, so he was very glad to except an offer for dinner as it meant that he wouldn’t have to cook. As it turned out Liz was from Italian origins and she had made homemade gnocchi it was a taste sensation and very appropriate for us runners. After dinner we all sat around for a while chatting around the fire before D and I started to fade from exhaustion so we said our goodnights and headed back to our Regent pink home.
I went to bed with a very full tummy and comforted by a warm feeling in my soul to have had strangers offered us a shared space by their fire and a great home cooked meal coupled with good conversation was kind and generous. I truly believe that it only takes small gestures to make the world a better place, imagine what the world would be like if we all offered the same kindness to strangers. Mother Teresa once said “We can not do great things only small things with great love” No truer words were ever spoken it’s the little acts of love we do everyday that makes life worth living.
Running with you soon.
