2nd Attempt: Day 46: 2000km Mark! Tuesday 11th 2010, 39.8km, Steps 45050. (5/11/2010)

Brrrr it was a very cold start this morning and I spent the time until breakfast wishing that I had a second fur coat. D didn’t seem to mind as she had on her new pink gloves, hat and scarf which had been sent to her by a friend, talk about spoilt, maybe someone could knit me some pink booties.

After breakfast it stayed cold and overcast and as we got to morning tea it began to rain, well it wasn’t really rain just a light sprinkle but I thought it was quite funny as it rained at the exact time that we crossed our 2000km mark, just like when it was raining when we crossed our 1000km mark. I do hope this is not the start of a weird rain pattern on our special kilometre marks.
D spent the afternoon listen to her radio as she said that a thing called a budget was being announced and she wanted to know how it would affect her, her family and her business. I asked her about the budget and I decided that over the last year I had been very whisker-ally responsible and I think that seeing there’s money made available in this thing called a budget for extreme athletes and trainers that I should gain a special grant for being D’s trainer. After all it’s me that keeps her going with my black and white determination that keeps D on the straight and narrow and on the road day after day. I told D of my plan to gain dollars and she just laughed and said Maggie dream on, well I think a dog can have ambition.
I decide that D and I should have a good Tassie steak for dinner tonight so during my rest leg (that’s when I don’t run with D) I told Glyn to get some out of the freezer and he decided to place it on the bonnet of our pink truck to thaw whilst we were waiting for D to arrive.   D arrived, grab water and was off again, mumbling something about food at the next spot and how lazy her dog had become, really I am entitled to some rest you know! Glyn and I got ourselves in the truck and started to drive forward the required kilometres to the end of the next run leg and guess what happened? Glyn had driven off; forgetting about the steak on the bonnet of the truck the next thing I spotted something moving across the bonnet, I thought that some wild creature had jumped on our truck but it was the steak! I quickly nipped Glyn’s elbow to alert him of the situation and luckily for us our steak was saved. For an instant I have a wee doggy cuddle to myself as I imagined that if the steak had fallen off onto the hwy someone would find it and think they had found vacuum packed roadkill.
We finally arrived in Minnipa and went to the general store for some supplies and then we ran onto the Apex Travellers Park to set up camp for the night. D remembered this place as she stayed here when she walked around Australia back in 2003/2004 (see as it has a infamous tourist attraction known as the concrete crappa and D in all her tacky glory got me to stand in front of the thing for a photo. Really D my delicate nose found it all somewhat offensive, however once I’d eaten I had other thoughts on my mind; to dream of not to dream.
Running with you soon.
