2nd Attempt: Day 37: An unexpected encouragement. Sunday 2nd May 2010, 50.8km, Steps 60354. (5/2/2010)

We run out of Port Pirie towards Highway 1, early this morning with the idea of getting as close to Port Augusta as possible, as D has a couple of fundraising events on in Port Augusta tomorrow and wanted to make sure she arrives on time.  When we reached highway 1, “Big Pink” our travelling canteen was there with our breakfast, yum VIP’s and milk. After breakfast D’s folks left us, taking “Big Pink” with them as they were fundraising in Port Augusta today and we wouldn’t see them until tomorrow.  I started to feel a little worried that our canteen wouldn’t be around and how I was going to get fed. I must have looked a little forlorn as D scuffed my head and said don’t fret Maggie we have plenty of food in “Little Pink” so with that comforting news we headed down the road.

We were having a good running day, not too hot, flat landscape, a tail wind, the beautiful Flinders Ranges to our right and views of the Gulf of Spencer to our left. With such good running conditions D was in a very cheery mood and was singing along to her i-pod…”love is in the air, everywhere you look around…” when The Ghan train passed us on the right hand side and D being D waved to the train driver. All of a sudden a vivid pink scarf was enthusiastically waved from a passenger cart window. This single gesture uplifted my soul, a fellow traveller, a stranger there on a train waving their support to our journey, how magical is that and isn’t it a wonderful world and yes indeed loves is all around.
Running with you soon.
