2nd Attempt: Day 25: An ancient landscape but is progress, progress? Tuesday 20th April 2010, 53.6km, Steps 64,724. (4/20/2010)

We took off this morning under a patchy sky and drizzly rain and headed on down the highway and as it was still early morning the dawn sun brought new light to the surrounding landscape. We were not long on the road when up ahead a giant kangaroo, about D’s height bound across the road and to our left in the dark grey clouds a full rainbow appeared adding another splash of colour to this ancient early morning Australian bush scene and then in a flash a fox shot across the highway and I was reminded that we weren’t in the dreamtime but in modern Australia where a girl and her dog (that’s me) were running in the Coorong National Park.

It suddenly dawned on me that I was an illegal immigrant as no dogs are allowed in National Parks, D said not to worry she will smuggle me in the safety of the caravan through the National Park until we reach safe ground again. This sounded like a great idea to me as then I wouldn’t have to do too much running for the day.
With me safely hidden in my pink home, D continued to run out the day and we finished at Policeman’s Point a spot close to D’s heart as she spent many of her childhood Easter holidays at the old caravan park here. D talked to me of spending her girlhood here, roaming this beautiful wind swept, lonely, arid landscape with not a care in the world. I wondered if D’s childhood adventures here influenced her adventurous spirit of today? Unfortunately the caravan park was sold a few years ago to developers who are now selling the land off in house blocks and with a little bit of a saddened heart D ended the day thinking that sometimes progress isn’t such a good thing.
Running with you soon.
