2nd Attempt: Day 22: Hugs and a sprint. Saturday 17th April 2010, 51.5km, Steps 59944. (4/17/2010)

This morning I decided why I love being on the road, it’s the glorious sunrises! As we left the caravan park at Beachport the sun was rising over the ocean, it was a magnificent sight and it cheered my doggy heart.

My positive mood was further enhanced throughout the day as nearly every car gave us a toot and wave to the point that my paw was getting sore from waving back. Also many people stopped and pulled over to give us donations and Deborah got a few great hugs whilst I got many pats.  I am constantly amazed by the support we are getting from the public and I just want to yet again thank all.
The only thing was D had to be at Robe by 4.30pm for the official meet and greet and all the stopping and talking was taking up her time, not to worry with a quick call from the mobile D postponed her arrival time till 5pm so we would make it for the official stuff. I am of the attitude that meeting mayors and the community is great but equally important is to spend some time with the people who bother to stop, donation and say hello on the road. It’s a constant balancing act between giving people our time and being on time for others and we do our best and appreciate people patience’s when we are a tad late.
As it turned out the extra time was a good thing as about 18kms from Robe a car pulled over and out jumped two women and a girl, they all wanted photo’s with us and the girl wanted to run back to their car with D and I, we said sure but being young and enthusiastic she took off in a sprint leaving us behind, not to be beaten I went into four leg gear and out ran her, winning the race. D of course just trotted along in her ultra marathon pace and wasn’t about to get all caught up with being first, she says in this game, it’s endurance not speed that counts.
Finally after a good solid 50 kms D and I arrived at Robe to meet the mayor and some locals then it was a 1.5kms run back down the road to the Lakeside caravan park for the night. Robin from the park gave D the key to the family bathroom that had a bath tub and D disappeared for a good hour where she soaked in the tub and read a book, she remerged relax and happy.
All in all it was a great day to be out here doing what we love to do.
Running with you soon.
