2nd Attempt: Day 6: A little sad but an afternoon cheer, Thursday 1st April 2010, 48.9km, Steps 59713 (4/1/2010)

D and I left our house early this morning a little saddened by the thought that we wouldn’t be back home for almost a year. I wag my tail goodbye to daddy (Alistair) not excepting to see him again for a while. It was a grey morning with heavy cloud cover, and I could tell that a Tassie winter is on its way.  I was cheered up a little that we were running towards the mainland and the fact that I will be missing another bitterly cold, wet Tassie winter. However just as a little parting gift from my home town about 5kms into our run this morning it started to rain and rain and rain. It rained steadily for a few hours and I turned into a very soggy doggy and D didn’t look much drier, we both looked at each other and thought the same things, “Bugger! The rain genie is in town again”. The good thing though was the rain had turned the roadside dirt to mud which was nice and soft for my paws and was great fun to roll around in.

We spent the day on the back road to Westbury and Deloraine which is our old training route so I got to smell many familiar spots and the weather cleared during the afternoon making it a very pleasant running day. About 12kms from Deloraine, daddy (Alistair) turned up and I was so excited to see him so soon that I nearly got run over by an old tractor coming our way. As D’s blisters were starting to really hurting her Alistair decided to help her through the last leg of the day and ran with us into town where we were greeted by my grandparents (Alistair’s mum and dad) who had come to say goodbye before we left for the mainland, I am truly a much loved dog to have so many people who will miss me when I am gone.  I thought everyone should go out to dinnertogether for a treat so I said I’d stay and mind the vans whilst they went out, oh that big heart of mine is really my biggest downfall.  Oh well someone has to make the sacrifices and as they say it’s a dog life for some.
Running with you soon
