Tears of frustration and Oh No! Twice. Day 208, 40.1km  (5/20/2009)

Oh No! Today we have woken to a flat tyre, so D decided whilst the crew was changing the tyre we would have breakfast. So we had a yummy hot toast and vegemite breaky and then hit the road. D needed to feel that she was moving forward so she set herself a little challenge to do some higher  kms today as she was feeling frustrated with the low km’s she had been doing. She really struggled up the highway and after 9 hours and 40kms she decided to get off the road as her body was telling her to stop. She walked to the van with tears in her eyes as she felt that she just couldn’t do anymore and the frustration of the last week was starting to take its toll. I told her that in her condition it was a mighty effort, even more so as it had gradually got hotter and hotter as the day wore on. We have been speaking to a few of the locals here and they had been telling us that the temperatures were very hot for this time of year. D threw her arms up in the air and said “of course, it’s hot I’m on the road”, rather sarcastically, I looked at her with shock as it was the first time she has been negative, now I know that the ankle and the pain is starting to really get to her. After recording the finishing spot with the GPS we drove forward to Mataranka Caravan Park. It was still mid afternoon and I think D’s frustration need an outlet and she spotted my dusty coat and then a tap and hose. Oh No! The next minute I looked like the Michelin dog covered in bubbles from the shampoo as D washed my coat a little too rigorously then D gave me a rinse and a shake, rattle and roll and all was well. I got a look in the mirror and my image looked like picture book Border collie again. Luckily I’m not vain or my beauty might go to my head.
