Running in pain on flat plains. Day 175, 63km (4/17/2009)

The morning greeted us with clear blue skies and a tail wind which means it might be a good day for running. We are now entering the plains of the Flinders Hwy and things have flattened out, even better for a good running day. As we move west the landscape is changing, it’s becoming scrubbier with fewer trees and the creeks have only a trickle of water in them, rather than a swished flow we saw on the east coast! I am hoping that the flat terrain and the tail wind will help my D as she is struggling a little this morning due to having two quite serious falls in as many days. Fortunately the tail wind stayed with us as we ran into Prairie, I small town in the middle of flat grassland plains, I think the town is appropriately named. The publican at the local watering hole said to us “I’ve been expecting you, I heard you were on the road and heading our way a few days ago” and then exclaimed, “What took you so long?” D explained what we are doing and that she is moving a little slower due to falling down. The publican signed our witness book, wished us luck and then D and I were off to add some more kilometres before we found a suitable gravel pit on the side of the road to set up camp for the night. I was glad that the day ended as I could see it was a really struggle for my D today as she worked through the pain to achieve the kilometres she did. Unfortunately we were quite a few kms under our target so we are now officially a day behind in our schedule. I am a little worried about this but D said we still have plenty of time to catch it up and ordered me to bed so I can get a good night sleep, so it’s sleep tight from me.

Running with you soon
