Land as old as dog time and an evening swim. Day 166, 61.7km (4/8/2009)

Again we left in the dark, I think it’s starting to be a bit of a habit but at least we can run during the cooler hours of the morning and with daylight we emerged into the grasslands of the Savannah, which stretched all the way, to Western Australia. In this area there are in excess of 160 Volcanos that date back 190,000 years. If my Border Collie Family all lived to 15 how many generations back would that be? I think that must be a lot of dogs. We ran on along the Kennedy Highway, it was a great day to run as the terrain was flat; we had cloud cover and a little drizzling rain. The only drawback was the trucks and no shoulder. Today I got to practice a new trick D taught me. It’s great, on command I can jump one way over the bar of the caravan and then I can jump back. I feel like a real show pony or should I say dog. I wonder if I could win a prize doing this at the local show? As the day draw to a conclusion we pulled into a large gravel pit where we met a local farmer, he told us we could stay on the farm if we liked and have a swim in his water hole. I thought, if it’s not infested with crocs, I’m putting my paw up for that one. We ran down a long gravel track from the farm gate where the caravan could stay for the night and then off to the water hole. A nice cool swim as the sunset and then back to camp for some bones, what a great end to the day.

Running with you soon.
