Say yes to life. Day 162, 53.2km  (4/4/2009)

We arose this morning to a thick blanket of mist all around us, visibility was only a few metres, which meant D and I had to be careful on the road. D put on the Xmas tree look and we headed off into the unknown. We were now in serious termite country and you could see the mounds in the bush through the mist as big as cattle. D and I were running well as the mist was keeping things cool and the road was flat with a nice wide shoulder, perfect running conditions. We found a spot to pull off for breakfast, it was the car park for Kelley’s fruit and veg stall, Kelley had just feed the birds their breakfast so there was a colourful display of parrots to watch as we had our favourite pancakes for breakfast.  The mist melted away to reveal the heat of the day but as usual we keep running, after running for a while we came across a bench in the middle of nowhere, how convenient I thought and D and I had a little rest before we ran on into Mareeba where we were greeted by some people at the IGA. However there was no time to dilly dally as we still had k’s to do so we kept running out of Mareeba, heading towards Atherton. We made it as far as the Tolga Caravan Park about 5 kms from Atherton where we met Roy the owner. What an inspirational Roy is to this wonderful thing we call life, at 87 he was planning to retire in about 5 years, then wanted to caravan around Australia before settling down in a quiet spot. D and Roy hit it off, they are both travelling down the same road in life and he was a project man, just like my D, I am sure at 87, D will still be out there saying yes to life and loving it. Just like my D, I’m a project girl (dog) too, but my next project is to eat and then sleep.

Running with you soon
