Lost the van. Day 93, 46.4km (1/25/2009)

Finally after so many days of heat, heat, heat today was cooler and after a quick breakfast and radio interview D and I headed out of Hornsby, an outer suburb of Sydney, towards the tree lined Old Pacific Highway. D and I have a set route with our support van, in the countryside and on the wide open roads we send the van about 6 kms ahead and run up to it. But in towns and cities the van usually goes about 2- 3 kms ahead or stops at difficult intersections or turns that we have to do. We do this in towns so as not to get lost; D often says she has no sense of direction and couldn’t find her way out of a paper bag. As the road out of Hornsby was fairly well sign posted we sent the van ahead its usual 2-3 kilometres and proceeded to run. Now D is travelling slower than usual due to her continuing leg issues but after about half an hour we started to wonder where the van was, we continued on anyway as D thought that as we were on the outskirts of town with no more turns to make maybe the van went ahead 6 kms. However 1 hour come and went and still no van, then 1 and a half hours and still no van, D was starting to question if she had taken the wrong road but a sign ahead said Old Pacific Hwy so we knew we weren’t lost. At this time I was a little thirst and nature was calling us, I started to panic about losing my pink home but Daddy called and after a few minutes he managed to locate us in his car, my hero. You see the van got lost not us; it took the wrong turn thinking it was on the right road. D and I are kind of puffed chested as we didn’t get lost! This means that there will be no more teasing us about not having a sense of direction, and it’s great to have a tiny win over the crew.

Running with you soon.
