Running for a bet. Day 80, 60kms  (1/12/2009)

Today we covered a good distance even though D is continuing to nurse her shin and we travelled over some of the toughest, mountainous roads that we have journeyed on so far. The Oberon – Goulburn road has a section in it called the Abercrombie, this section of road will forever be known to D & I as the descent and ascent from hell!  Paw D with her shins I could almost see the tears as she tackled the 14 degree, 2.5km decline on a narrow, twisty road only to face the 2.5km ascent once she reached the bottom. I think even the most daredevil skateboarders wouldn’t tackle this road. At the end of the day D hobbled into Taralga and we were greeted by some of the lively local men at the local watering hole. Glyn took our witness book, a book we travel with around Australia and get people to sign as we visit their communities, over to the gents to get them to sign it. D’s dad had already done the donation tin rounds but as men do spurred on by D efforts they decided to have a bet that Glenn (a local chap) couldn’t run to the sports club, about 400m and back within 4 minutes. Furthermore if he could achieve this goal they would give an extra $50 towards our cause. Glenn took on the challenge and was off like lightening he slowed down towards the end but made it home under the time limit and a little under the weather. Well done Glenn what a trooper you are and thanks for putting your best foot forward for our cause.

Running with you soon, I think Glenn will probably sit the next one out.
