A nightly surprise, Day 72, 50.2km  (1/4/2009)

As Deborah had no scheduled appointments today she spent the day resting her leg. No folks, she didn’t have a day off from running, we all know that is not allowed but she tried to rest her leg by not pushing so hard. She achieved this by using a run/walk combination of 3 mins running and 2 minutes walking throughout the day and also resting between her 6kms stages for 10 -15 mins with her leg up or in a bucket of ice. Due to this “treatment” it took D all day to travel our distance and she hobbled into Yass around 7pm where she was greeted by a lone community member of Yass, Lyn who walked with D and me until we reached D’s parents. On arrival at our stop D was told that her brother, Adam a long haul truck driver was travelling up the Hume Hwy and would be at the Yass McDonalds around 9.30pm for his scheduled rest break and wanted to say hello. D was very excited over the prospect of seeing her brother the only catch was she had to run a further 4 kilometres to the Hume Hwy where Macca’s is located. D did run the extra distance and I know that D’s and all the members of the Running Pink team spirits were lifted from this spontaneous visit from a family member. D even got to climb up into the big truck Adam drives and of course D’s mum got a photo. We are camped for the night amongst the big trucks and our little convoy look like Dinky toys compare to these giants of the highway. We have been invited to breakfast at McDonalds by Bruce who also donated water so I am off to bed dreaming of the golden arches.

Running with you soon.
