Running in a pack. Day 61, 44.7km  (12/24/2008)

We run the twisty, curvy, hilly Mallacoota road this morning and for our efforts we were greeted at the town limits by a group of supports who proceeded, with police escort, to run and ride their bikes with me and D into town. Whilst the pack was running into town I saw a lady on the side of the road with a scarf on her head, she was watching us run by and appeared a little tearful. D held up the procession as D and I run over to this lady and D just hugged her. I heard my D telling her to be brave and have hope; I feel she was someone D had to meet as D understands the journey this woman is taking. This moment and others like it inspires Deborah to go that extra kilometre when she is tired as she knows that through running she brings a focus to the important issue of breast cancer in our communities and that the funds raised on the run will make a difference to women’s lives. The running, cycling procession proceed ending up at the Mallacoota “Men’s Shed” D and I had a little chuckle as we were running for women and ended up in a men’s shed. Very ying yang, very inclusive, very us. At the men’s shed, which is connected to the local community health organization in Mallacoota, they put on a sausage sizzle for us, I just love sausages! After filling my belly with one too many sausages I decided to rest the afternoon out as D turned around and headed back the twisty, curvy, hilly road to the highway. She finished her day at Genoa and as it is Christmas Eve we marked the road, GPS etc and drove back to Mallacoota so D could have a Christmas shower for tomorrow we really don’t know where we will be.

Running with you soon.
