Running on a rollercoaster. Day 59, 51.5km  (12/22/2008)

As a born and bred Tassie girl I really suffered today because it was our first day of real hot weather therefore whenever possible I spent the day under the caravan trying to catch a cool breeze in the shade whilst D pounded the highway. After yesterday’s effort of trying to run in a different style D woke up today with very stiff legs this wasn’t the best of days to have leg issues as we are in a very mountainous part of the world. Deborah compare the run today like running on a rollercoaster it was a continuous stream of up of down with no flat areas all day. Image running in those conditions with sore legs? After seeing D suffer all day I sat her aside this evening for a heart to heart regarding her issues with her running. We discuss why after nearly two months on the road she decided that her running style wasn’t right, after all it had got her this far. D admitted that she had been feeling that she was a bit of a running tragic as it was taking her so long to run the required daily distance. After a little probing I found out that she had been feeling this way since running with a runner that join her in Melbourne. This individual had told Deborah that she was slow and proceed to tell her that he had just finished his first marathon in less than 4 hours. I reminded Deborah that sometimes in life people try to make themselves feel better by portraying themselves as “better” than you. Beware of these individuals! Deborah fell into the trap of listening to this person and forgot that she is not just running one marathon and then going home to watch TV, she is running over a marathon everyday for 365 days, which is a very different thing. I told D she doesn’t have to be the fastest running she just has to run the distance consistently which is a far greater dedication. Today D just need a bit of positive input to get her mind back on track and a bit of TLC (tongue, lick and cuddle).
Running with you soon.
