The wet west: 31.3km  (11/15/2008)

Today was the start of our 4th week into our journey and Deborah tells me it was the worst day she has ever had on the road. We started the day running up hill out of Heller Gorge and by the 3km mark it started to drizzle, the drizzle turned into rain by lunchtime which turned into hail by 3pm. Deborah spent most of the day with her head down looking at the road and plodding on. I loved the rain and with hardly any traffic on the road I spent most of the day off my leash running free and jumping in and out of puddles. I do sympathize with D though she has very low blood pressure and cold temperatures like today’s 4 degrees just aren’t the kind of weather that suits her. We often joke and call Deborah a lizard as we all think she is only happy when the sun is on her back.  D did say that the only saving grace for today was in between the rain storms she managed to lift her head and viewed the beautiful scenery of this part of the world with its mystical rainforest and mountain top views. The problem D has with the cold is that her legs tend to seize up and cramp which makes running very painful plus she still hasn’t recovered her voice so it was a difficult day for her health. However we made it to Waratah and D had a comforting warm shower and a great meal of baked chicken, potato and steamed veggies, I just had the chicken and gravy. It’s still very cold out there and the locals are predicting snow over night so maybe when we wake tomorrow we might wake up to a winter wonderland at the end of spring, only in Tassie.
